When living in Japan, I noticed that the women in my family wrote letters when they needed to confront or sit with an emotion. My Obaachan is handwriting as a human. As handwriting becomes a form of love language, mundane everyday moments transcend into a larger narrative of what shapes our lives: family and friends, politics, and love. Writing with direct honesty that rebels against linguistic barriers, 44’s work seeks to deepen our mutual intimacy, vulnerability, and empathy.

I took a gap year before my final year at Pratt. In the fall, my dad had another incident regarding his health that made me both thankful and spiteful of Medicaid. Health- no, Life quickly became about Insurance prices, priority, and that’s a space for heavy improvement in the US.
